New tram line will reduce the travel time from «Kupchino» to Slavyanka by two times

The government approved the concession agreement signing with «BaltNedvizhServiсe» LLC on the tram chain creation and use (operation) along «Kupchino metro station» route - Shushary - Slavyanka village» in St. Petersburg».

«The tram line, being designed, will pass through both Frunzensky and Pushkinsky St. Petersburg’s districts and will contribute to decrease the road chain overloading at peak hours, reduce the travel time from Slavyanka to Kupchino metro station by almost half, namely up to 30-35 minutes», Roman Golovanov, the Investment Committee chairman said. - Besides, the passengers number here will double in 2030 - up to 57 000 people will move along the current route per day, according to our forecast. Therefore, it is rather important to start working right now to make St. Petersburg’s remote areas and suburbs, now being actively developed, more comfortable and affordable».

High-speed trams implementation concept development in Frunzensky and Pushkinsky St. Petersburg’s districts since 2016 has being carried out by the working group, controlled by O.A. Markov, St. Petersburg vice-governor. St. Petersburg relevant committees took part in it as well. Besides, the tram route and technical and economic parameters for the  public-private partnership mechanism project implementation have been approved.

St. Petersburg Government issued a resolution on the concession agreement signing with «BaltNedvizhServiсe» LLC on the tram chain creation and use (operation) along «Kupchino metro station» route - Shushary - Slavyanka village» in St. Petersburg» through a public competition шn August 2017. «BaltNedvizhServiсe» LLC was recognized the open tender winner in May 2018.

The concession agreement implies both the tram chain construction and its subsequent operation from Balkan square through Shushary village to Slavyanka microdistrict, including the tram depot construction. Besides, the concessionaire is obliged to purchase and operate at least 21 rolling stock’s units.

The first construction stage (from Balkan Square to Shushary village) will be launched no later than four years from the concession agreement signing date while the second construction stage (from Shushary village to Slavyanka microdistrict) will be launched no later than five years from the concession agreement signing date. The tram tracks length is at least 21 kilometers. Private investment will amount to at least 25.9 billion rubles.

The maximum possible rolling stock units number can stay on the line due to modern repair and maintenance technologies in the tram depot. This will reduce the estimated tram waiting time at the final stops to 4-5 minutes.

It is planned to buy three-section, 100% low-floor trams within the current project, intended to ensure comfortable transportation at high and low temperatures (from +40 to -40 degrees). Tram speed is at least 20 km/h. A passenger counting system will be implemented, travel payment and one-time tickets purchase devices will be installed, including the ones, providing a chance to pay for tickets by bank card and Internet access will be provided as well in the current trams.
