Architectural competition is the best way to create investment projects for the restoration of monuments

On August 29, a regular meeting of the working group "Improvement of investment activity" of the Headquarters for Improving Business Conditions under the Governor of St. Petersburg was held at the Nevsky Town Hall. The event is regularly held by the St. Petersburg Investment Committee as part of the implementation of the Regional Investment Standard.
This time, the main topic was the issue of restoration, adaptation for modern use and inclusion in the investment turnover of cultural heritage sites and architectural monuments of St. Petersburg. Experts from the Committee for State Control, Use and Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments of St. Petersburg, the Committee for Property Relations of St. Petersburg, the All-Russian Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments, the City Administration of Inventory and Valuation of Immovable and Movable Property, as well as business representatives made reports on the topic.
As noted by the Deputy Chairman of the Investment Committee of St. Petersburg‑Kristina Sergeeva of St. Petersburg, restoration and adaptation to modern use of cultural heritage sites is one of the priorities of the city's investment policy. At the same time, in order to attract potential investors to this area, it is necessary to stimulate their interest as actively as possible and emphasize the importance of participating in projects to preserve historical monuments for future generations.
In order to popularize the concepts of involving cultural heritage objects in investment turnover, the working group supported the idea of organizing a regional competition for the best project proposal for adapting cultural heritage objects for modern use in St. Petersburg locations. The competition will be organized among students and young specialists in design, architecture, urban planning, restoration, urban studies and other creative areas.
At the same time, Dmitry Panov, chairman of the profile investment commission of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, drew the attention of the meeting participants to the fact that the concepts planned for development by students should not become just beautiful images - they must be implemented in the format of supporting documentation, which will confirm to potential investors the possibility of implementing a full–fledged and economically feasible project.
It was decided to form a commission to evaluate the competitive works and during the discussion to identify the aspects that the contestants need to take into account when preparing their draft projects.
The participants agreed that the competition will give a new life to architectural monuments, combining the creativity of young architects and financial support from investors – to preserve the historical heritage and transfer its value to descendants in a new quality.
The All-Russian Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments (VOOPIK) is planning to organize the competition. Information about the competition will be posted on the website: https://voopik-spb.ru /, as well as on the Investment Portal of St. Petersburg https://spbinvestment.ru .
