WEST SPEED DIAMETER SUMMED UP SUMMER SEASON
«Northern Capital Highway» company has summed up the Western High Speed Diameter operation summer season. The trips number along the highway increased by 9.5%, compared to the same period of 2018 while amounted to over 26 million transactions. The maximum traffic amount - almost 9 million trips occurred in August.
The overwhelming trips majority (over 82%) were paid by transponders - the most modern way to pass through the charge points without stopping at a speed of 30 kilometers per hour. This contributed to the correct significant traffic flows handling as well as significantly decreased travel time even during peak hours.
Currently about 650 thousand Western High-Speed Diameter transponders are being used. About 500 thousand trips within the interoperability system were made by users with transponders, issued by other toll road operators. The tariffs rates for guest transponders were equalized with the current tariffs rates for Western High-Speed Diameter transponders on the tourist season eve. This gave a great chance to almost double the users flow amount with interoperable transponders, compared to 2018.
Western High-Speed Diameter transponders owners actively used other toll roads in Russian Federation - over 1 million transactions with Western high-speed diameter transponders were recorded on other operators’ routes, most of all on M-11 «Moscow - St. Petersburg» and M-4 «Don» areas.
General Western High-Speed Diameter cleaning was carried out in the spring-summer season: all structures, soundproofing and architectural elements, signs and displays were washed, the drainage and wastewater treatment systems were verified and cleaned, large-scale anti-corrosion metal structures treatment was carried out, over 350 main lighting lamps were replaced once the winter terminated. The road workers laid over 240 thousand square meters of new asphalt, completely removing the rut in some areas, updated the road markings on an area of over 19 thousand square meters, which is almost 100 kilometers of new lines, arrows and security islands as well.
The summer season on the highway was opened with a unique sports holiday, namely Western High-Speed Diameter Festival for the second year in a raw. Several thousand runners and cyclists have been provided with a great chance to see cable-stayed bridges, a two-tier bridge as well as amazing St. Petersburg views from an unusual perspective of the central highway section just for one day.
Western High-Speed Diameter is a unique investment project, intended to create a long-distance toll multilane highway, implemented on the agreement basis on public-private partnership with «Highway of the Northern Capital» LLC.
This is the world's largest public–private partnership project in the toll roads creation field, one of the first and most large-scale public–private partnership projects in Russia Federation. The route provides transport accessibility to St. Petersburg Seaport, allows the traffic flow to the most popular federal highways, decrease the load to the historical center, the Ring Road as well as the road chain of St. Petersburg.
