Latitudinal Highway construction in St. Petersburg will start in 2020

Latitudinal Highway construction was one of the key meeting topics, being guided Maxim Akimov, under the Deputy Prime Minister Head.

Yevgeny Dietrich, the Russian Federation Transport Minister, Alexander Beglov,  St. Petersburg Governor and Mikhail Moskvin, Deputy Chairman of the Leningrad Region Government for Construction, took part in the discussion of St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region transport infrastructure development perspectives.

It is planned to divide the Latitudinal Highway construction into stages and start in 2020. The new route will contribute to reduce the road infrastructure overload, redirect intensive cargo and passenger flows, as well as increase «St. Petersburg Big Port» seaport transport accessibility.

LLC «Northern Capital Highway» as well federal and city budgets will participate in the financing. Three next steps are going to be implemented on the public-private partnerships basis.

The route will include 11 interchanges, the estimated throughput will be over 170 thousand cars per day, the speed is 110 km/h. The preliminary completion date is the 4th quarter of 2024.

Maxim Akimov supported the mayor’s initiative on the priority financing of road projects as well as the federal funds allocation for the Latitudinal Highway construction.

St. Petersburg Government, together with the federal authorities, selected and worked out in detail five priority projects for both road and transport infrastructure development, including the Southern Latitudinal Railway, the South Volkhonskaya Road construction, the Primorsky Highway and Petrozavodsk Highway reconstruction as well as the transport interchange construction at the intersection of Moscow Highway and the Dunaisky prospectus, in addition to Latitudinal Highway. The city expects to get 13 billion rubles from the federal budget from 2020 to 2024 to implement the ones mentioned above.
