The project of the Slavyanka tram line was presented at the Space of the Future competition at VDNH
On May 21, the defense of St. Petersburg finalist projects of the Space of the Future competition took place at the Russia exhibition in Moscow. The Northern capital presented projects in three categories: infrastructure, tourism and youth.
During the Days of regional development of the Northwestern macroregion, St. Petersburg spoke about three significant initiatives supported by the city Government: the national tourist route "St. Petersburg. New Geography", the youth volunteer project "Dobro in St. Petersburg" and the most important transport project "Slavyanka Tram Line".
The purpose of the competition is to introduce the inhabitants of the country to the scientific, technological and cultural potential that Russia has achieved in the XXI century. Through the presented projects, the visitors of the exhibition learned about St. Petersburg as a city that pays special attention to its multilateral integrated development.
The northern capital, on the one hand, preserves its historical heritage with special trepidation, and on the other hand, actively develops new unique projects. Among them, the Slavyanka tram network is a large—scale investment project, one of the largest in Russia for the construction of a new urban infrastructure for public light rail transport.
The project provides for the construction of a tram line with a length of more than 21 km, the construction of three bridges, four overpasses, a tram depot, bus shelters, terminal stops comfortable for passengers, as well as the purchase of 22 modern three-section low-floor trams.
The Slavyanka tram line will improve transport accessibility in the south of the city and will become another business card of St. Petersburg. Thanks to the implementation of the project, new areas of the city will be provided with modern, environmentally friendly, safe off-street tram service. Full-scale construction work is currently underway at the construction site. It is planned that at least 13 million passengers a year will use the new transport line. At the same time, the travel time from the Kupchino metro station to the Slavyanka microdistrict by tram will be reduced almost twice, to 30-40 minutes.
