The construction of the SMSD will give jobs to thousands of people and orders to hundreds of enterprises

The weekly newspaper Argumenty I Fakty told about the implementation of the high-speed Latitudinal Highway project in St. Petersburg.

The construction of the SMSD is one of the most ambitious road projects. In the future, the highway will connect remote areas of the city with the historical center, the effect of its launch will be felt by hundreds of thousands of residents of St. Petersburg. The SMSD will also connect the city with the Leningrad region and will contribute to the successful formation of the St. Petersburg agglomeration.

The project is being implemented on behalf of and with the support of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"St. Petersburg will receive all 90 billion for this very important highway for the city. This will give us the opportunity to connect the ring Road with the Leningrad region and access the Cola road. This is a joint project of our city and the Leningrad region. By supporting this project, the President gave the opportunity to develop two regions of the Federation," said Alexander Beglov, Governor of St. Petersburg.

The first stage of the SMSD — the construction of the Vitebsk interchange — will be completed by the end of this year. Further, the highway will pass through the territories of Krasnogvardeisky, Nevsky, Frunzensky, Moskovsky, Kirovsky districts to the junction with the ring road north of Kudrovo, and then it will pass through the territory of the Leningrad Region, providing connection to the Murmansk highway and Vsevolozhsk.

The inner-city section of the SCHMSD runs in the right-of-way of the railway and mainly inside the industrial belt of the southern planning zone. In conditions of cramped urban and industrial development, the highway will run in an elevated version for most of its length.

"The project is not easy due to the construction of a large number of overpasses and overpasses, as well as a huge amount of preparation: it is necessary to rebuild more than 230 km of urban networks, re-register more than 350 hectares of land. These are very large−scale works that will have a positive effect on the economy of the region, will give jobs to thousands of people and orders to hundreds of enterprises," commented Nikolay Linchenko, Vice Governor of St. Petersburg.
