St. Petersburg will continue cooperation with Switzerland on the transport projects

A meeting of the Government members with the Council of Cantons of the Federal Assembly of the Swiss Confederation, headed by Jean-René Fournier, Chairman, took place in St. Petersburg. Roman Golovanov, St. Petersburg Investment Committee head, visited the current meeting.

The meeting participants discussed the cooperation ways between St. Petersburg and Swiss business as well as support measures, proposed to ensure more effective interaction. The city governor proposed to create Swiss companies’ promotion working group in St. Petersburg to develop joint projects.

The discussion was mainly focused on cooperation in the public transport field. «Chizhik» Swiss trams, famous in St. Petersburg, were mentioned as a positive experience. They became the first public-private partnership project symbol in passenger transportation in Russian Federation. Today several dozen such rolling stocks run in Krasnogvardeysky district.

Switzerland ranks sixth place in the investment terms in the city’s economy on Neva. St. Petersburg received over $ 890 million of Swiss investments on January 1, 2019. The trade turnover significantly increased in the first half of 2019 - namely by 35%. It amounted to 107.1 million US dollars compared to the same period in 2018.
