The St. Petersburg Chizhik tram system celebrates its fifth anniversary

In September, it was five years since the full launch of the first concession project in modern Russia in the field of urban public transport – the Chizhik tram network.
During this time, Chizhik high-speed trams have already transported more than 106 million passengers, running through the Krasnogvardeysky district of St. Petersburg for almost 10 million kilometers. In total, during the implementation of the project, the Transport Concession Company reconstructed more than 14 km of tram tracks and a contact network, created 40 stops, built a high-tech depot, and purchased 23 modern low-floor trams.
However, this is not the most important achievement of the concession project. Five years ago, St. Petersburg's Chizhik launched the revival of tram traffic in Russia, showing by its example that light rail transport can be fast, punctual, comfortable, safe, attractive and efficient. To solve these problems, at one time, Chizhik implemented a number of unique engineering solutions, as well as implemented a set of automated systems, including a fare payment and control system, intelligent systems for priority passage of intersections and traffic control, as well as a number of others.
All this allows the Chizhik tram network to remain the most advanced tram system five years later, which continues to be equaled. Today, dozens of cities in our country are implementing similar concession projects, which are based to one degree or another on the experience of St. Petersburg.
