The photo exhibition "Aviation during the Great Patriotic War" opened in the Nevsky Town Hall

A photo exhibition dedicated to the feat of military pilots and dedicated to one of the most significant events in the history of Russia, the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, opened in the lobby on the ground floor of the Nevsky Town Hall.

The exhibition was initiated by employees of Pulkovo Airport together with students and teachers of the St. Petersburg State University of Civil Aviation named after Marshal A.A. Novikov.

The Victory Anniversary reminds us of the heroic deeds of millions of people who defended the freedom and independence of our Motherland. Aviation, both military and civilian, played a special role in this struggle.

With the outbreak of war, civil aviation was placed under the command of the People's Commissariat of Defense, which was an important step in mobilizing all forces to defeat fascism. The aircraft performed a wide range of tasks: cargo and food delivery, evacuation of civilians, reconnaissance, transport operations, aerial combat and bombing.

Military pilots performed feats from the first minutes of the Great Patriotic War: they rammed against German planes during aerial battles, destroyed enemy trenches from the sky, and eliminated enemy firing positions.

Special attention at the exhibition is paid to the exploits of pilots whose fates are inextricably linked with the Leningrad Front and Pulkovo airport.

You can view the photo exhibition until May 18.

Address: Novgorodskaya St., 20; opening hours: 09:00 - 18:00 (Friday until 17:00), except weekends and holidays.
