A competition "Conservation with adaptation 2024-2025" has been announced in St. Petersburg

On October 31 – November 1, 2024, St. Petersburg hosts the IV Conference on the Preservation of Cultural Heritage Sites – monuments of wooden Architecture. The event brought together professionals from different regions of Russia. This year's conference is supported by the Investment Management, which is subordinate to the Investment Committee of St. Petersburg.
Within the framework of the conference, a competition "Conservation with adaptation 2024-2025" was announced for the best project proposal for adaptation for modern use of cultural heritage sites in St. Petersburg.
Students are invited to participate in the competition, as well as persons who already have completed higher education and work experience. Participation can be either individual or collective. Intercollegiate teams are allowed to participate.
The decision on the organization of a regional competition of draft designs for the adaptation of cultural heritage sites in St. Petersburg‑St. Petersburg for modern use was adopted on August 29, 2024 at a meeting of the working group "Improvement of investment activity" of the Headquarters for Improving Business Conditions under the Governor of St. Petersburg‑St. Petersburg.
The organizer of the competition was St. Petersburg‑The St. Petersburg branch of the All-Russian Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments (VOOPIK), the jury included specialists from the Investment Management.
The competition will be held in three stages, summing up the results is planned in a year. Special attention will be paid to the restoration of monuments of wooden architecture.
It should be noted that speaking at the presentation of the budget of St. Petersburg‑In the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, Governor Alexander Beglov emphasized the task of preserving historical heritage and supporting culture. The cost of preserving historical heritage and state protection of cultural monuments in three years will exceed 14 billion rubles.
A concept for the preservation of monuments of wooden architecture has been developed in St. Petersburg. It includes restoration techniques, as well as recommendations for the state protection and use of historic wooden buildings.
