The Slavyanka tram line will carry its millionth passenger by the end of April.

On April 3, one hundred days have passed since the ceremonial launch of the first stage of the Slavyanka tram line from Kupchino metro station to Valdai Street in the village of Shushary. During this time, over 911,000 passengers used the route.
"One hundred days is the first but important milestone for a large—scale concession project. The numbers speak for themselves. The Kupchino – Shushary - Slavyanka tram has not yet started operating along the entire planned route, but it already transports an average of about 19 thousand citizens on a weekday and more than 7 thousand on weekends," said Governor Alexander Beglov. – The line has become an integral part of the St. Petersburg transport system. Today, she is approaching a new achievement – by the end of April, a high-speed tram will carry one millionth passenger. Its further development will allow us to significantly improve the quality of life in the south of the metropolis."
The governor also recalled that the second stage of construction – the extension of the route from Valdai Street to the final stop Slavyanka - is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2026. This will expand the coverage area of accessible public transport, increase comfort and speed of movement for thousands of Petersburgers.
The tram line project from Kupchino metro station to Slavyanka is the largest initiative of its kind in the field of public transport in Russia. The project was made possible thanks to an effective model of public‑private partnership, which made it possible to attract the necessary investments and ensure high-quality construction using advanced technologies.
Currently, the line is served daily by five modern low-floor three-section trams running on weekdays during rush hours with an interval of nine minutes. The same interval is maintained from 08:00 to 21:00 on weekends. During peak hours, the travel interval is 15-16 minutes. This reduces the average travel time and ensures comfortable travel for many residents of Shushar.
The new transport system has also contributed to the creation of new jobs. The staff involved in the operation and maintenance of the line currently consists of 217 people, including 32 drivers, 11 dispatchers, 50 repair personnel, nine service specialists, and 32 engineering and technical workers. By the end of 2026, the concessionaire of the line plans to employ 129 more people.
In parallel with its operational activities, the concessionaire continues to modernize the infrastructure of the line. Over the past three months, about 45 units of new machinery and equipment, mostly Russian-made, have been put into operation. These include a jack-in mobile installation of 12 lifts with a control panel "DEP-10", a rack-mounted single-level flyover with extendable segments "ESC-2SH (ESC-1TSHM)", a rotary snowplow with a conveyor for loading into the body of the car "Amkodor 37-01", a wheel-rail tractor "Retrak-1221" and others.. In the second quarter of 2026, it is planned to put into operation 40 more pieces of equipment and machinery, including a device for mounting and dismounting wheelset bands manufactured by the Russian plant "Enerprom", a diagnostic stand for checking brake calipers from the company "A-Profi", a CNC under-rail lathe for processing wheelset bands of tram cars without rolling out from under the car, a gantry type washing machine. These investments in equipment are designed to ensure maximum operational readiness of the tram fleet.
The high assessment of the work of the first stage of Slavyanka's work was also confirmed by the results of a survey conducted by the concessionaire on March 27-29, 2026 in the official VKontakte group of the line. More than 70% of passengers rated the service positively.
