The construction project of stage 4.1 of the SHMS received a positive conclusion from Glavgosexpertiza

On June 30, 2025, FAA Glavgosexpertiza of Russia issued a positive opinion on the design and estimate documentation for the construction of stage 4.1 of the Latitudinal High-speed Highway. The section will run from the transport hub at the intersection with Glukhoozerskoe Highway on the left and from 2nd Luch Street on the right, then along the northern railway semicircle to the transport interchange at the intersection with Soyuzny Prospekt.
At stage 4.1, the highway crosses the Neva River, as well as the street and road network of the right-bank and left-bank parts of Nevsky and Krasnogvardeisky districts. The construction of a technically complex facility, a drawbridge, is planned in the river crossing area.
The drawbridge span of the SCHMSD bridge will be implemented in the form of a single-wing drop-down system, the interstage spans will be over 100 meters. The new bridge will have the largest navigable size among the bridges of the opening single-wing system in St. Petersburg – 55 meters. For comparison, the Liteyny Bridge closest to this parameter has a navigable size of 50 meters, followed by the Troitskiy and Volodarsky bridges with dimensions of 43 and 42 meters. The length of the single-wing span of the drawbridge will be 60.1 meters, which is also the highest in St. Petersburg.
Main characteristics of the site:
The length of the main course is 3.4 kilometers in the right direction and 4.5 kilometers in the left direction.;
the width of the lanes is 3.5–3.75 m;
The number of lanes is 3 in each direction.;
the width of the main roadway is 11 m (each);
The width of the exit carriageway is 4.5 m.;
The estimated speed is 120 km/h.
It should be recalled that the construction of the Latitudinal High–speed Highway is a megaproject of St. Petersburg, implemented on behalf of the President of Russia on the development of the transport system of the St. Petersburg agglomeration. In accordance with the Master Plan for the Development of St. Petersburg, the CMMSD, along with the Western High-speed Diameter and the Ring Road, will ensure the withdrawal of transit traffic flows from the city center, create a direct link between the eastern areas of urban development with the center and south of the city and indirectly through the WSD with the north.
