Full capacity «Chizhik» high-speed tram traffic in St. Petersburg will be opened on September 1

Investment project implementation on the first private tram network in the Krasnogvardeisky district has been discussed in Smolny. All «Chizhik» launch-related repair works will be completed by September 1 by St. Petersburg Government order. All four tram lines will be launched at full capacity, including new routes No. 59 and No. 63 from the Ladozhskaya metro station to Peredovikov Street and Potapova Street.

«Irinovsky Ave, Potapova street and Nastavnikov Ave Crossroads will be opened for cars and public transport immediately after the complex transport hub construction completion», Roman Golovanov, St. Petersburg Investment Committee Chairman said.

The concession agreement on the tram network creation, reconstruction and operation in the Krasnogvardeisky district of St. Petersburg between St. Petersburg and «Transport Concession Company» LLC was signed on May 30, 2016.

This is the first concession experience in the light rail transport field, which confirmed the interaction efficiency and effectiveness between the state and the investor in order to develop the city’s transport infrastructure. The project is supported by St. Petersburg Investment Committee.

The project involves the comprehensive tram traffic reconstruction in the Krasnogvardeisky district, including tram tracks and rolling stock complete replacement, modern tram depot and reconstruction creation, utilities and networks removal and transfer.

Over 14 km of tram tracks and a contact network were reconstructed, 42 stops, 3 reversal rings were created, a high-tech depot was built, 23 modern low-floor trams were purchased in the Krasnogvardeisky district of St. Petersburg within the current project.
