SPIEF 2026: Investor to build new zoo in St. Petersburg

On June 4, 2026, as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, an agreement of intent was signed between St. Petersburg and Sotex LLC to implement an investment project to create a zoo in the Primorsky district of St. Petersburg.
In the presence of Alexander Beglov, Governor of St. Petersburg, the agreement was signed by Nikolai Linchenko, Vice Governor of St. Petersburg, and Ilya Korshunov, CEO of Sotex LLC.
"The Leningrad Zoo is one of the oldest in Russia, but its territory in the historical center of St. Petersburg is limited. Therefore, we have included the construction of a new site in the updated Socio-economic Development Strategy until 2035. The land area of more than 85 hectares is reserved in the Master Plan," said Alexander Beglov.
The project involves the placement of buildings, structures, and facilities necessary for the functioning of the zoological park, as well as landscaping.
The planned zoo on Kamyshovaya Street will not just be a collection of animals in cages, but a multifunctional educational, scientific and recreational center, which will create new opportunities for family recreation, environmental education and scientific work.
The author of the concept of the new zoo was the Scientific Research Institute of Advanced Urban Planning (NII PG).
The zoo is supposed to be built using a public-private partnership mechanism. The agreement signed at the Forum laid the foundation for long-term cooperation between the parties.
