Puerto de San Petersburgo es el puerto marítimo más grande en parte noroeste de Rusia. Superficie de su espacio acuático es 164,6 kilómetros cuadrados, extensión de amarre es 31 kilómetro. En 2015 más de 50 millones de toneladas de varios cargos corrieron el puerto de carga de San Petersburgo, mientras tanto el terminal de pasajeros recibió casi 500 mil de pasajeros.
San Petersburgo es el nudo ferroviario más grande de Europa y parte noroeste de Rusia, donde cruzan vías férreas críticas del continente. Tráfico ferroviario se realiza por Ferrocarril de Oktiabrskaya – una rama de Ferrocarriles Rusos (Sociedad anónima abierta “Rossiskiye zheleznye dorogi”). En 2015 de terminales y estaciones de Ferrocarril de Oktiabrskaya partieron más 138 millones de pasajeros. Además en San Petersburgo hay conexiones de transporte de alta velocidad con Moscú y Helsinki – viaje a estas ciudades dura sólo 3 horas y media.
El terminal nuevo del aeropuerto “Púlkovo” es el cuarto de aeropuertos más grandes rusos después de aeropuertos del centro aéreo de Moscú. Superficie total del terminal centralizado de pasajeros llega s 170 mil de metros cuadrados y el tráfico de viajeros en 2015 totalizó en 13,5 millones de personas.
Entre sujetos de Federación Rusa San Petersburgo es líder y pionero en campo de alianza público-privada (APP). Volumen total de inversiones atraídas en marco de proyectos de APP en San Petersburgo llega a más de 360 mil millones de rublos.
San Petersburgo seguramente encabeza el índice de las ciudades rusas más visitadas por los turistas. El centro histórico y conjuntos de monumentos de San Petersburgo entran el la lista del Patrimonio de la Humanidad de UNESCO, haciendo la ciudad el centro turístico mayor del Europa. Anualmente a la cuidad llegan más de 5 millones de turistas. En 2015 esta cifra llegó a 6,5 millones.
