Project description

Yuzhny satellite town is one of Russia's largest integrated development projects, located in the Pushkin district of St. Petersburg on both sides of the federal motorway M20 (Kievskoye Shosse).

According to Government Resolution No. 438 of 07.04.2011, Yuzhny Satellite Town was recognised as a St Petersburg Strategic Project and was included in the list of priority investment projects approved by the Russian Government under the NWFD Socio-Economic Development Strategy until 2020, No. 476p-P16, signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on 07.02.2012.

The project envisages the creation of a self-sufficient urban micro-district, provided not only with the necessary infrastructure, but also with jobs and public spaces. The main driver of the area will be a scientific and educational and technological complex «Innograd of Science and Technology" (based on St. Petersburg State University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics), an innovation and manufacturing cluster, a medical cluster, commercial and industrial infrastructure, logistics terminals and warehouse complexes, a theme park, shopping and entertainment complexes and retail parks.

In creating the urban environment, the prevalence of low- and mid-rise buildings is planned, using the Smart City technology, using the experience of advanced cities in the world. The project is based on the principles of "green development", which implies creating favourable conditions for people to live, recreate and work with minimal impact on nature. A single, environmentally friendly space, soft undulating terrain, extensive parks and open spaces, street network, complemented by parks and green strips, will create a comfortable place for life and leisure of the satellite city residents.

As part of the project it is planned to develop the transport infrastructure of the surrounding area - the street and road network and new roads, the construction of light rail transport (LRT)

On July 23, 2012 an agreement between St. Petersburg and OOO Yuzhny Satellite Town (hereinafter - the investor) was signed, defining the parties' actions during project implementation, including:

St. Petersburg shall carry out the actions necessary for the creation of thoroughfares of city-wide and district significance, as well as social infrastructure facilities.
