Project description

A project for the construction of the first clinical centre for proton radiation therapy in the Russian Federation and the former Soviet Union to provide high-tech medical care to patients with oncological diseases.
The area of the buildings is 9,600 square metres.

The centre is equipped with a Probeam system manufactured by Varian: a cyclotron, a proton beam delivery line, two treatment rooms with rotary gentry systems.

It also features a full range of sophisticated diagnostic equipment needed for treatment planning: specialised magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and dual-energy computed tomography (CT) machines; a nuclear diagnostic department equipped with a positron emission tomography (PET/CT) scanner with flat-bed table, a radiopharmaceutical laboratory with cyclotron and on-site production of radiopharmaceuticals.

Once it is fully operational, the proton therapy centre will be able to treat up to 800 patients per year and will fully cover the need for proton therapy for both children and adults in St. Petersburg.

The opening of the centre will expand the use of nuclear medicine methods in clinical practice and make it possible to organise in St. Petersburg a modern research platform for the development and implementation of new radiopharmaceuticals.
The high-tech medical centre, exclusive to Russia, will promote medical tourism and attract patients from other regions of the country and abroad to St. Petersburg.
